Chinese Business Club

Chinese Business Club details how to make the most of opportunities in the East

A new Chinese Business Club facilitating the exchange of information and business opportunities between southeastern Michigan and China has been created by TechTown in conjunction with the new Wayne State University Confucius Institute. The free monthly forum will be the primary centralized resource for entrepreneurs who want to conduct business with China, and for Chinese businesses that want to do business in southeastern Michigan.

“China is the fastest growing trading partner in the world,” TechTown Director Randal Charlton said. “If we want to drive Detroit in a new direction, we must tap into this global market. These forums are designed to help local entrepreneurs do just that.”

The Chinese Business Club’s forums will begin in May and be held from 7:30 to 9 a.m. on the third Thursday of every month. Each forum will feature a different speaker and discussion topics will include all aspects of Chinese business practices, business law and culture, business opportunities and import and export law. Breakfast is included.

“Michigan industry and business are heavily dependent on good relations with partners in China,” said Robert Thomas, dean of the Wayne State University College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Thomas will discuss global economy at the inaugural meeting in May. He was instrumental in the creation of the Confucius Institute, which promotes Chinese language and culture in Detroit. “In Michigan and across the nation, there are extremely few accredited teachers of Chinese as a second language. If we are to remain strong trading partners with China, we must change this.”
